Luis Major Lemus

Luis Major Lemus, a beautiful young child in the Seine Bight Church we sponsor, was diagnosed with a Lukemia at the age of three. As a result, he received chemotherapy treatments for 15 months. In order to receive these treatments Luis and his mother Joy, took a grueling 30-hour bus ride to Miranda, Mexico twice a month. The struggle of this Christian mother has been unbelievable and has probably impacted me personally more than anything else I have experienced here in Belize.

With the help of contrib-utors, our ministry helped as much as possible with travel and hospital costs. We were also exploring the possibilities of bringing Luis to the United States for treatment. But, on December 31, 2009, Luis became ill and Joy got on the bus with him to begin the familiar 30-hour trip. Sadly, Luis died in her arms before they even reached Belize City.

We are so saddened by Luis' passing, but we know that during his short life, he was blessed with a mother and father who really loved him. Joy Major Lemus, his mother, has such a strong Christian faith. She tries to find the positive in what has happened to her - a quality that I'm not sure that I could have in her place. Ministries of the Son of God was honored to help give Luis the best possible burial in Belize.
