THE TEUL FAMILY STORY
Our friends Nestor & Dawn have attended our Seine Bight Church, since even before we had a church building. They have been a couple for 18 years, but, living together in a common law marriage, as most adults do in this country. Very few find it necessary to have a legal, church wedding, because of common law marriage here. They have 8 children together. Most we have seen grow up from small babies or even birth. Their children have always attended our children’s Sunday school, even when we had to transport them on the back of our truck, and then in the white church bus, to a tourist church we pastored called “Plantation”. That was before the beautiful yellow concrete church that now sits on the roadside in Seine Bight Village.
Dawn has been a born again Christian for several years. She has prayed for Nestor to change his ways and serve The Lord. They both work and have good jobs in Belize. Nestor is a transport bus driver and Dawn is a medical assistant. Dawn’s prayers were answered two years ago when Nestor began attending our church in Seine Bight with her and the children. Nestor gave his heart and life to Jesus. He is a spirit filled Christian and LOVES to tell everyone!! Even those who ride his transport bus. Nestor says most don’t want to hear about his conversion. However, he keeps the transport bus radio tuned to105.3fm “THE MESSAGE”. He says, “Well at first the passenger’s rail up over the radio station always on Christian radio. But, now they all seem to like it, because it is not going to change, so they may as well like it.” He is very bold in what he believes and stands strong for JESUS.
Nester perhaps has made one of the most, boldest moves of his life recently. He married Dawn his common law wife of 18 years. The wedding took place on February 27th in Seine Bight Church. It was a beautiful wedding complete with a white gown and flowers. All 8 children participated in the wedding. This is the largest Christian event the proud workers of “black magic” has yet to see. The church would not hold all the guests. The streets were full. Everyone wanted to witness, the self proclaimed woman chaser and drunken bar goer, who is now a believer. The old Nestor Teul has passed away and the new Nestor is a new creation in Christ Jesus. The new Nestor has made a commitment to marry the mother of his 8 children. Not only to marry Dawn, but he has expressed an interest to enroll in our Pastor’s training course. Yes, Nestor says he feels God is calling him to perhaps be a Pastor.
As missionaries this is a once in a life time true life love story that we have witnessed God’s hand at work to unite this beautiful family. Dawn now has relatives who ride a boat across Mango Creek from Independence Village just to come to our church in Seine Bight. Nestor’s sister-in-law, stood up in church last Sunday and gave her testimony. She travels with her husband and children all the way from Kendall Village to come to our church. She wept and told the church how she has seen Nestor and Dawn’s life change for the better and she wants the same for her family. That is the reason she is willing to travel 25 miles one way just to come to church.
We are so proud of Nestor and Dawn and we are honored to be their missionaries.
